- Customizable Sales Screen - With categories, items, and "hot keys" for frequently sold items. Touchscreen Layouts can be further customized for each user/cashier.
- Free and Reduced Meal Applications can be scanned and entered using the unique “key from image” feature, or entered manually. Eligibility is determined automatically, and patron statuses are updated immediately. The system also performs Verification selection and prints all the required letters.
- Sales Reports - Users may print Sales Activity Reports for individual facilities, or create Facility Groups, and view/print combined reports. Combined district reports can also be printed.
- SQL database stored and accessed from a central server. A Terminal Services server may also be used.
- SIF 2.0 Compliance (Schools Inter-operability Framework) - SIF is an industry-supported technical blueprint for primary and secondary (K-12) school software which enables diverse software applications to interact and share data seamlessly. The Comalex SIF agent shares student data with your SIF-Compliant Student Management System, which eliminates duplication of data entry.
- CaféPrepay.com Integration. CafePrepay.com is the online payment site for school meals where parents can monitor what their children are eating by viewing their participation reports, and replenish their meal account funds using their Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card. The Café Prepay Desktop Widget (shown below) may also be downloaded by parents from the Café Prepay website. The widget shows each child’s current meal account balance, and allows parents to quickly and easily connect to Café Prepay to view reports and make payments.

Patron Account Access
The Café Enterprise system utilizes patron accounts for flexibility in processing account debit sales, cash sales, and charged sales. When a patron purchases a standard meal, Café Enterprise automatically prices the meal according to the patron's eligibility status and meal price. The procedure is performed in a manner that ensures eligibility confidentiality.
Café Enterprise quickly processes both ID (Patron account) and No ID sales. To process an ID transaction, users access the patron's account through PIN number entry. Entry can be accomplished in several ways. Patrons may enter their PIN on a keypad, scan their ID card, or place their finger on a fingerprint reader. Users may also key in a PIN or Search by the patron's name or display thumbnail photos for a selected homeroom, and touch the patron's photo to access the account. Barcoded Roster Sheets may also be used. |
Café Enterprise software produces low-cost, high quality, barcoded, photo ID cards which are scanned in the lunch line to access accounts for processing transactions. |

Processing Sales
During a sales transaction, the patron's name and photo appear on the screen following the entry of his or her unique PIN. This feature prevents fraudulent use of patron accounts. To add items to the sale, cashiers simply touch the keys that correspond to the items being purchased. Café Enterprise supports electronic scales for items sold by weight. The sale can be completed with cash, account debit, or credit card swipe. Café Enterprise prints sales receipts in those systems that incorporate a receipt printer. A receipt printer is required to accept credit card payments. |
SQL Database Stored Securely On The Server
The SQL database is stored securely on your server, which is accessed by POS client terminals through IP-based Networking or Terminal Services. Café Enterprise's patron/student account data includes all of the information necessary for processing sales and meal applications, printing account status letters, notification of eligibility letters, and patron participation (purchase activity) reports, and hundreds of other detailed reports. |
Café Enterprise also maintains an item table in the database. Items are added and edited from the Enter/Edit Items screen. Multiple Touchscreen Layouts or Keyboard Layouts allow you to maintain different menus for individual users. A user table monitors user security access rights, which can be customized for each user. This user-based access allows for floating cash drawer activity. |
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Free and Reduced Meal Applications may either be scanned, or entered manually in the Meal Applications section of Café Enterprise. The Meal Application Scanning with "Key from Image" feature makes entering Meal Applications in Café Enterprise both fast and simple. Full compliance with current USDA Regulations and Income Limits means less work for you.
Application Scanning can be a joint effort, with one or more people scanning the applications, while others simultaneously display the scanned application images and key in the application information. Café Enterprise automatically, and securely, stores the scanned Meal Application image and data together on the server, and calculates the correct meal status for students.
For ease in entering multi-child (family) applications, users simply press Copy To, then select one or more students from a list to add to the family application. When the application is approved, Café Enterprise immediately updates the meal eligibility status of all the students listed on the family application so the student(s) can begin receiving benefits immediately. |
Full Reporting Capabilities
Sales Transaction data is stored in user journals. Café Enterprise accesses these journals to generate Sales Activity Reports, which include income received, items sold, and other accounting data. Users may generate reports for a single site, a group of sites (called a Facility Group), or create district-wide reports. Various patron account reports and à la carte item reports help you monitor accounts and track items sold. Café Enterprise reports provide the documentation necessary to substantiate reimbursement claims. Reports can be viewed on the terminal screen and printed at any terminal where a printer is attached or to a network printer. Available Reports include: |

Account Status Letters
Café Enterprise generates letters, which can be printed or sent via email, for patrons whose account balances fall within certain limits that you specify. This feature includes editing capability, which allows you compose letters that meets your needs. The letters may also include a school logo or a logo from your paid sponsors. |

Installation and Support
Your Café Enterprise system will be installed by trained technicians, and terminal operators receive training following the installation. The system is simple to operate and training time is minimal, making it easy to train any new operators.
In addition, one year's technical support and free updates as they are developed within that year are included in the purchase price. Technical support/update agreements are renewed on a yearly basis for a minimal charge.
